27 April 2008 |
A joint concert was held with St Thomas
School, Keith.
The first half of the
concert was performed by the children of the School. The
programme included 3 singing groups from P1 to P3, P4&5 and P&7
performing material rehearsed for and performed at the recent
Moray Music Festival where the groups were awarded commended and
placed certificates. Two soloists, Katie and Caitlyn sang
traditional Scottish songs. Instrumentalists included Zara on
clarinet playing the Pink Panther theme, Jordan and Ryan on
chanter (Scotland the Brave and Highland Cathedral), the Brass
Group who have only been playing since last September and a
percussion group.
After the interval the
band played a varied programme which included the Scooby Doo
theme, a Village People medley, the Can Can, and music from the
film Happy Feet. The children particularly enjoyed YMCA (they
were both singing and doing the actions) and the Can Can
(comment from a band member “they went ballistic”). During the
finale (Skirl) the dancing reached a fever pitch with the
children performing a reel in the aisle.
A great evening was had
by all and the band’s contribution was greatly appreciated.
Parents commented that they did not know that we did music like
that and that it would encourage the youngsters in their music
making. A band member commented that the atmosphere was great
and there was terrific response from the audience to the band’s
efforts.
More than £400 was
raised for school funds.

Keith Show
12 August 2007 |
The Band performed two sets in the music tent
during the Sunday afternoon on what started as a very wet day
with underfoot conditions somewhat similar to Glastonbury. Other
entertainment included a Brazilian style drum group, Elgin Pipe
Band, Keith Fiddle Group, singers and dancers. The file below is
5MB.

Daluaine Gardens - Rhynie
8 July 2007 |
We don't get too many requests for "The
British Grenadiers" but the band was pleased to oblige Major
Chrichton Maitland who once served in this illustrious regiment.
The band played throughout this open afternoon in aid of the
Friends of Insch Hospital and managed to not make "a frightful
noise" as some had feared! Click

for some more details of the garden. |

Drumdarroch Cream Tea Afternoon - 30 June
2007 |
The Band joined a piper, the local highland
dancers and Ray Morton on the organ in an afternoon of
entertainment and cream teas at Drumdarroch House nursing home
in Insch. The old folks thoroughly enjoyed hearing us and we
have been invited back to put on a proper concert later in the
year. See the link below for some images of a (luckily) sunny
day.

Buckie Festival 2007 - 28 June 2007 |
Driving into Buckie in monsoon conditions did
not bode well with double pneumonia seeming the likely outcome
for all band members. However, the weather relented long enough
for us to participate in the accompaniment to the finale with
the Burryman and his clan triumphing over the Cockiecoo.
The images behind the links below will give
you some idea of the great atmosphere.

Jason Webster Memorial Concert - 22 June 2007 |
Jason was a pupil at Keith Primary and the
Band were honoured to be asked to play the second half at a
concert in his memory with proceeds going to the Sick Children's
Hospital, Yorkhill, Glasgow. (See this
article from the Northern
Scot)
The first half entertainment was provided by
the Primary Music Group who impressed us with their ensemble
work, musical and vocal solos and Doric recitations. The Band
played an entertaining programme, the highlights probably being
Scoobie Doo (thank you Riona - see the picture
here) and The Stripper
(Wendy's son) which brought the house down (sorry no picture of
that!) |
